Hunger
"Many mornings Aurora hustles Manolito and Dolores out the door so she doesn't have to see their hunger. If they play, they'll forget. When my mother and uncle are lucky, they find discarded scraps behind houses in the more affluent areas, where the government officials live. Aurora always gives whatever she's kept aside to Dolores because she is so skinny. 'Eat hija, or the wind will carry you away like a kite.'"
